A pretty slow day here in the world of just plain chips. Work has been a little busy, lots of cabinets being delivered to the finisher. I just ordered some speaker grill cloth, that was exciting.
Last night was one full of accomplishments and encounters. I headed out from work towards Burnsville to go buy some speaker cloth, but the guy had closed up shop. Luckily the address (which was still given on the message when you called his phone number) was occupied by someone who knew the guy and he was able to tell me I was out of luck.
I then headed to Apple Valley, to Matt and Jenny’s house, to do some computer maintanance. They had a corrupted registry file that didn’t allow the computer to boot. The solution to this problem is documented here. Unfortunately there was one little snag, whenever I tried to start the recovery console, the computer would reboot again. This was a problem I had never seen before and it wasn’t a good sign. Luckily the solution was not much more difficult, it just took a bit more time. I installed a separate copy of Windows on the box and booted into that, then I was able to copy and delete the files that I needed in the original copy of Windows. Anyway, as payment I was given a delicious dinner of steak, cous cous with green peppers and onions, broccoli, and salad. Jenn’s dad stopped by as well, so it was nice to see him. The kids were hilarious and playful. Elaina was smiling and cooing and Luke had all sorts of stuff he wanted to show me and do with me.
When I left, Matt was falling asleep on the couch after drinking too much cough medicine. I headed to Ruby Tuesday to meet Steve for a couple of drinks. I hadn’t seen him in a bit so we just caught up a bit with stuff that doesn’t usually make it into blogs or emails. Linzy was nice enough to suggest Ruby’s since it was 2 for 1 happy hour that night, which made the tab extra cheap, which I’m always a fan of.
I had really intended to head straight home to get to bed early after being up too late the night before. But I decided to give Chey a call and see what she was up to. Since she had nothing important to do (not likely) and the only thing I had to do was sleep, I ended up heading towards St. Paul instead of Eden Prairie. Alas and alack!
We walked from her place to a coffee shop close by. A really cute place that had just got wi-fi access, Miss Power Book Chey was very excited about that. After getting kicked out of there (they were closing, we didn’t do anything wrong) we headed to a restaurant close by. Luckily they weren’t busy so we didn’t have to feel too guilty about drinking nothing but water and Chey ordering a single baked potato.
A very pleasant and much more subdued night than Brit’s ensued. After a couple of conversations and not too long of time she walked me back to my car and I finally headed for Eden Prairie.
So what was the scorecard?
One accomplishment was wiped out because a guy was out of business. Dang.
But the other accomplishment was really two. I fixed Matt and Jenny’s computer but I also had to figure out a work around on my own.
My first encounter was with my brother’s wonderful family. Always a good time and good for some laughs.
My second encounter was sitting at a bar over a couple beers with a good friend. Much better than IM or email.
My third encounter was with a farm girl living in St. Paul. She’s more alive than almost anyone I know, so you know I had a good time.
So that’s 2 accomplishments and 3 encounters. Definitely a pretty good night for me.
